Philadelphia Eagles: Pressuring Alex Smith Will Be The Key To Win Tomorrow’s Game

‘This is exciting’: Will Smith and Queen Latifah square off during rap Jeopardy match for her new talk show

Celebrity challenge: Will Smith joined host Queen Latifah for a special game of Jeopardy on Tuesday during a segment on her new chat show

Smith is a solid quarterback for Andy Reids offense as he can manage games with a good running game and solid defense. However, if the game is put on his shoulders then he can certainly run into trouble. Just like most quarterbacks, when Smith is pressured into making throws then the ball should be in the Eagles hands. Smith isnt an elite quarterback by any means, and if the Eagles jump out in front with an early lead and they apply pressure on Smith then the game should belong to the Eagles. Smith isnt the quarterback that can pick apart a defense with his arm; however that could be quite possible this week considering the Eagles have one of the worst pass-coverage defenses in the league. Yet if the Eagles front seven can get to Smith or even pressure him, Smith is bound to make mistakes. The one way you can look at it is that most Eagles would rather have the ball in Smiths hands than the hands of his talented running back, Jamaal Charles. Charles is a dynamic running back that can take it to the house on any given play, just like LeSean McCoy can for the Eagles. If the Eagles minimize the amount of touches Charles has by grabbing an early lead then that will pressure Reid to pass more, even though he passes the majority of the time anyways. But Smith can certainly do some damage if he has all day to throw. So with that being said the Eagles will need to dial-up some blitz packages this week and get to the quarterback, which is something they ineffectively did last week against Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers . Billy Davis needs to be more creative with his blitzes, because what hurt the Eagles last week was that the Chargers offensive line had no problem picking up blitzes and Rivers was able to find the open receiver instantly. So the Eagles will need to get after Smith from beginning to end in tomorrows game to secure a victory.

What must cause consternation for Smith is that After Earth was designed as the precise type of entertainment that had made him the undisputed king of summer blockbusters, beginning with Independence Day in 1996 and built upon the successes of Men in Black, I, Robot, and Hancock.Smith himself is an obsessive student of industry patterns and figuring out what succeeds and what doesnt in Hollywood. After Earth wasnt some high-minded departure (like his 2008 wannabe Oscar-bait, Seven Pounds). This was sold as Will I Make This Look Good Smith battling special-effects aliens. Yet the critics were merciless and, of greater concern, audiences yawned. After Earth certainly has its defects; EW film critic Owen Gleiberman likened the plot to a plate of sci-fi leftovers. The real star of the film is Jaden Smith, Wills 14-year-old son who plays a military cadet tasked with finding the rescue beacon that will save his injured father after their spacecraft crash lands on a toxic planet Earth that was abandoned by humanity and now is home to all sorts of predatory creatures. Smith the elder is a heroic warrior-general, but hes stoic and severe rather than charismatic. Once hes injured with broken legs, hes left helpless at the ships controls while his son battles danger. Audiences expecting to see Will Smith kick some alien ass had to settle for him literally guiding his son through the motions an unfortunate metaphor for the Smiths professional relationship that critics have been only too happy to poke . But this was still a $130 million bet on Will Smith, who came up with the idea for the potential franchise-starter, recruited a director with a number of recent misfires in M. Night Shyamalan, and anointed his son as the films leading man. What remains to be seen is whether After Earth is a mere speed bump like Smiths own Wild Wild West or is it something with a lasting stench, like John Travoltas Scientology vanity project, Battlefield Earth . That After Earth arrives soon after Smith acknowledged turning down the title role in Quentin Tarantinos Django Unchained doesnt make a strong case for Smiths choices of late, but his reliance on patterns of past performance to guide his career might be slightly overstated by the media. His resume demonstrates he has an appreciation for four-quadrant data, but they arent his only criteria. After all, this is the same actor who made Ali and The Pursuit of Happyness remarkable by the sheer magnitude of his personality and ability. And although he supposedly has new installments in the works for some of his most popular franchises, including another Men in Black , hes also slated to anchor Focus, a con artist movie from the directors of Crazy Stupid Love, and is attached to star in the Hurricane Katrina drama, American Can, for Edward Zwick. Neither will likely require sequels or battling aliens.

How the NY Knicks Will Cover for J.R. Smith’s Early-Season Absence

Once healthy, he will serve a five-game suspension for violating the league substance abuse policy. Smith was a de facto starter last season, playing 33.5 minutes pernight, and the team’s second-leading scorer at 18.1 points per game. The former Denver Nugget is one of the few Knicks who can create his own shot and is adept at breaking down defenses with dribble penetration. Smithwas particularly impressive late in the 2012-13 season, when he made a point of taking the ball to the basket instead of settling for outside shots. He averaged 22.5 points on 47.3 percent shooting from the field and 37 percent from behind the arc over his last 20 games ( via NBA.com ), during which the Knicks won 13 in a row. Woodson, who indicated over the summer that he has not settled on a starting unit , may be compelled to go away from the two-point-guard lineup that was so successful for New York last season due to a lack of depth at 2-guard, at least until J.R. returns. Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler , Iman Shumpert and Raymond Felton are locks to start, withPablo Prigioni, who finished last season as a starter, one of the favorites to grab the fifth spot. However, if Prigioni and Shumpert are both in the starting lineup, the only 2-guard on the bench would be rookie Tim Hardaway Jr., who may not be ready for big minutes early in his first season. Woodson was likely considering switching to a bigger lineup prior to Smith’s injury.New York struggled to match up with a physical Indiana Pacer team in the playoffs last season, and three of the elite teams in the Eastern Conference, Indiana, the Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets , have big front lines. With the additions of Metta World Peace and Andrea Bargnani, and hopefully a healthy Amar’e Stoudemire, Woodson now has the personnel to play a bigger lineup.
